SEVERAL BAY AREA HOMES.. ARE RED- TAGGED. THIS – AS A NEW ROUND OF RAIN STARTS TO SOAK THE BAY AREA. TONIGHT: THE THREAT OF EVEN MORE FLOODING. GOOD EVENING, I’M KEN BASTIDA. I’M ELIZABETH COOK. WE BEGIN TONIGHT WITH THAT MUDSLIDE… THAT CRASHED DOWN NEAR SEVERAL HOMES IN GUERNEVILLE. IT HAPPENED ALONG SANTA ROSA AVENUE. KPIX 5’S JOE VAZQUEZ GOT CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF IT. JOE? Up the hill from Guerneville above the Russian river, a huge landslide has completely covered Santa Rosa Avenue … The road has become a muddy waterfall chock with debris … Some homes are red-tagged. The county has deemed these houses uninhabitable. STANDUP: Joe Vazquez / Guerneville it’s a little hard to tell on TV just how large this mudslide is … but just think about one of those large slides at a water park … about 50 to 75 feet from top to bottom. The mud is deep … waist high on me … to get the rest of the story, we will have to go around. STANDUP: Here on the other side is Old Monte Rio Road … it is also impassable. the mud is very thick here, as well. There is no doubt this road is going to be compromised for some time. The area is sparsely populated. Homes are spaced apart. How much damage is done? It’s just too dark to tell. WE will probably have to wait to daylight to see the full scope of the damage of the big mudslide. KPIX 5 CHIEF METEOROLOGIST PAUL DEANNO IS TRACKING THE STORM TONIGHT. PAUL?
